Astghik Petrosyan

Astghik Petrosyans artistic practice centers on ceramic sculpture, where clay becomes the primary medium through which she explores memory, emotion, and lived experience. Within her work, diverse forms and materials converge to create a sculptural language that is both organic and multilayered. Alongside clay, she incorporates glazes, pigments, metal elements, and threads, allowing each material to contribute its own expressive qualities to the conceptual integrity of the work.

Her practice investigates the relationship between humans and nature, with a particular focus on the emotional and sensory traces that this connection leaves within memory. Astghik is drawn to childhood experiences—our earliest encounters with the natural world, its textures, scents, and tactile sensations—and to the invisible memories that evolve over time while remaining deeply embedded in the subconscious. Revisiting these memories in adulthood becomes not only an act of personal reflection but also a way of reconsidering our innate relationship with the natural environment.

Her decorative sculptural works seek to awaken the observer’s personal memories, creating a space in which each observer can reconnect with the sensations of their own childhood. She is interested in the idea that the emotional experiences of childhood are never truly lost; rather, they continue to shape our identity, our sensitivity, and the ways in which we perceive and engage with the world around us.

Rather than presenting fixed narratives, her sculptures invite the observer into sensory experiences where memory is felt rather than explained. Through this process, the artist seeks to create moments of reflection on the subtle yet inseparable relationship between memory, time, and nature, offering spaces in which personal recollections can quietly resurface and resonate.
