Maryam Khastoo

Maryam Khastoo is a Welsh Iranian documentary and portrait photographer based in London. Her work explores migration and the ways movement reshapes identity, rooted in a lifelong emotional connection to Iran and a constant pull towards the country. Growing up in Wales, she became increasingly aware of how Iran is viewed in the West, which led her to challenge distorted narratives shaped by the media.

Her practice centres on long term projects, spending extended time with her subjects and building close relationships. Her work has been featured in publications including BJP, BBC, WePresent, Pomegranate Press and Source, and she was selected as one of the winners of Female in Focus 2021.
